Vessel
Hey Folks, I was at my co-op this morning and I noticed some real cool bottles from Vessel. The buyer told me he stopped carrying SIGGS due to the company's erratic deliveries and they were having a lot of problems with leaking. Some of their designs are real cool and according to another employee, these things are the Cadillac of water bottles and insulated drink ware. He went on to tell me that he would fill it up with scalding hot coffee, throw it in his backpack and bike home...his coffee is still hot and no drips to be found. I need to retire my Sbux travel mug (which is going to my BF's work), and I was wondering if anyone here has one of these and if they are worth the hype. I have a SIGG insulated bottle, but it is a pain in the @#$&^% to clean. Current Mood: curious |

don't know why i do this to myself- i should be asleep. i had a meeting at the ski resort today about the uniforms my company is making for them. the last time i was there was in july and the mountain was covered in wild flowers, which was beautiful but didn't feel right. today it was snowing as crews prepared the lifts and terrain for wednesday's opening. the snowboarding season is starting a few weeks earlier than i expected and i couldn't be more excited. RE:Looking for a wedding planner
Wasn't someone budget-minded and non-traditional looking for a wedding planner in here? I can't find the entry now and I was going to offer the benefit of my experience, having worked with a number of planners myself. Where did your entry go and why was it deleted? |

Need Help with Space
Hey Guys - I am looking for a greatly reduced price half decent event space to host my sis's 30th. Needs to be free for children, food, alcohol, and dj. Any ideas where this ideal space might exist or someone who might be willing to host it? |

Book Drive for the Children's Book Bank
Hey, DPers. Are any of you parents, or recently beholden to them? Are you or your children not as young as they used to be? Do you have books sitting around that never seem to get read anymore, despite the bewildering assortment of words "A" seems to have been for? If so, or if any number of other more specific circumstances hold, please consider bringing some old children's books to my book drive for the Children's Book Bank. It's this Friday, November 13, anytime from 1:30 to 6:00 PM. Located on Reed College campus ( map) in the lobby of the Hauser Memorial Library ( map), very close to a parking lot. The Children's Book Bank, and by extension this drive, aims to collect "new or gently used" children's books (in particular those targeted at children 5 or under) and redistribute them to low-income households whose children might have had few or no books at all beforehand. I love Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel as much as you do, but isn't it possible that some of those other books you just don't need anymore? Not as much as someone else does? "The Children’s Book Bank is committed to being a source for free "read aloud" books for children in need. Board books, picture books, alphabet books, books about numbers, colors, animals, shapes and words, story books, rhyming books, Dr. Suess (sic) books, and books in Spanish are greatly needed. Please, no encyclopedias, no musty or damaged books, and no school text books. Early chapter books are acceptable, but at this time our focus is on gathering books for children under the age of 6." |

Dry eyes
I have a question for ya'll! Since the end of September I have been experiencing some dryness around my eyes. The skin is raw and peeling and even just water hurts. I've tried using oil and hydricortizone cream and it seems to help a little but the dryness always comes back. I'm almost ready to go to the doctor with this but want to give a few natural remedies a try first. My skin doesn't respond well to chemicals and I really don't want to pay the outrageous visit fee for my doctor to see me for 5 minutes and just prescribe a prescription dose of hydricortizone cream. So any suggestions? I just tried some cucumber tonight and the skin around my eyes is feeling pretty good but who knows what it will be like in the morning? Oh just as a side note I've tried Vitamin E as well as Olive oil. The skin around my eyes really didn't like the E and the olive only worked so-so. |

Google Voice vanity numbers
Hi! just a helpful hint, if you want a google voice number but are caught up because you want a hellza cool "vanity number", there are some open in the (434)-933-???? (Ifixed-????). Also, obviously, there is (Ifi)x??-????. Also many in (pol)y??-????, though polynomial is already taken, sorry. Also, I'd really appreciate any feedback on data-only plans. Using the ipod touch as an internet/VoIP phone isn't really working out as well as I'd hoped, mostly due to the lack of ubiquitous free wifi. I'm thinking something like an internet tablet or "palmtop" or something (open pandora, nokia n810.) Any of you use(d) something like this? Also I don't want a voice plan at all. |

Face wash recommendation for those with sensitive skin.
I had been using Aveda's acne face wash, for about 9 months. It worked great but didn't want to dish out the money for the refills every month. Whole Foods sells a brand called Collective Wellbeing ($12), and I decided to check out the Oatmeal & Raspberry cleansing paste a week ago. This is the best face wash I've ever used. It smells nice, cleanses really well, and doesn't have acne medicine in it. I have eczema so I've always been a fan of oats in the bath & the occasional face mask. For my budget, I'm super happy with it. So far it's keeping my skin clean, clear, and more moisturized. I still use a small amount of EveryDay Shea lotion on the super dry areas of my face, but overall it does not dry out my skin. x-posted to naturalskin |

We need a plumber!
Our bathroom sink was so clogged that we couldn't use it. My SO unclogged it, which was great, except that now when we use it the water goes downstairs to the living room! Ack! So, Damned Portland, I need your personal-experience-based plumber recommendations. I looked at the tagged entries, yes I did, but my SO would like more suggestions than the two that were made back in July. Thanks! |

For my fellow geeks lurking here, my company is looking to add an experienced software engineer to our tech support team. The workload is primarily email-based, so we need someone with excellent writing skills who is comfortable troubleshooting Windows and Linux server issues, reviewing and helping customers with C#, ASP.NET and Java code. Familiarity with distributed/clustered computing concepts would be a plus. We're a small software company with offices in Beaverton. If you know someone who may be interested, send them in my direction! |

For my fellow cash-strapped caffiene junkies
I drink Bustelo as coffee, which runs about $6.50 round these parts. If you order from their site (javacabana.com), cans run $2.50- and if you join their club, shipping is free. I just got a case of 24 for $63. |

So I was trolling Wikipedia the other day, looking up official 'state' things, like state bird, state dance, state beverage, etc. So I ran across the Oregon state song, entitled "Oregon, My Oregon" (how freakin' inventive), but I just about lost my shit when I read the lyrics: Onward and upward ever, Forward and on, and on; Hail to thee, Land of Heroes, My Oregon.Wait, rhyming "on and on" with "Oregon"??* What's the deal here? Is our state song incorrect, or are we? Or perhaps the pronunciation has just mutated since it was written in 1920? *They also rhyme it with "setting sun," so maybe they were just plain stupid. |

Beer Review: Belzebuth Blonde Ale Origin: Brasserie Grain D'Orge Style: Blonde Ale ABV: 13% Bottle size: 8.4 fl.oz Grade: B- Label: Review: This French Beer is rather delicious and incredibly smooth. At 13% its got a bite that sneaks past you and allows you to enjoy the taste without a bitter hop finish. Its a smooth beer unlike Frosty Goodness weblog comments about this; I actually like it. Its the type of beer you would enjoy after a heavy meal and relax with a good cigar too rather than a whisky or burbon to finish a pleasant meal with. I could see someone like Nero Wolfe after one of his rich meals sitting by his desk quaffing down this as a post dinner drink as a way to cut back on his 7 pints a day and still have something savory to enjoy.
Its fruity taste is not as rich as a lambic or other flavored ale. The first taste was a bit of a surprise as expected a fruity start and heavy finish of hops that is common in most blondes I've drank. This was a smooth roll past the tongue and slid down without a bite. The second taste which I had chilled it a bit further was even better as it seemed to be better at in a colder mug (freezer for an hour). There's a citrus taste that sneaks by and catches you off guard, but isn't unpleasant either. I can taste the hops after the third round, but they are a mellow taste that seems to be like eating a small bit of bread and not like having a mouth full of hops running for the stomach.
I could see this as brew to have at the end of the day when calling it an evening at home. Nothing too heavy, but still wanting to have a good buzz from a long day of work. The size of the bottle is disappointing and the price is high for the amount of beer purchased $3.99 a bottle at my local beer shop. I would definitely use this as an finishing beer for a rich meal, but only as a occasional choice. Definitely not a daily drink choice of beer or ale, just used for chick flick events or quiet get togethers with those who like something different and would see how they would like this.
Would be interested in others feedback if they have tried this beer?
